My Beauty Favorites

Morning!! I hope that you are all having a fantastic day 🙂 I can’t stop yawning! I don’t know if it is the weather or the fact that Aurora now knows that when the alarm goes off, that means it’s time to play! And not a few snoozes away, RIGHT NOW. Haha. She is just so cute, it’s not a big deal, but I would have loved some snooze time this morning.

This morning I woke up feeling pretty sore after a weight circuit yesterday, always fun. I’ve been neglecting weights lately, so it was fun to feel the burn again. If the weather holds up, I might run this afternoon, or at the very least, head out for a walk with the pup.

I thought today I’d do a different type of post, a post about the beauty products I love. I like to read about products people like, so I thought I would highlight my current favorites.

For my face, I use the Clinique 3-Step system (type 3). I used this in college, and recently started using it again. I can’t remember why I stopped! I love everything about it. It makes my skin glow. It took me a while to figure out if I was type 2 or 3, but luckily Sephora has an amazing exchange policy (and they have a sample steps 1 and 3 with a full size step 2 for $12.50!!), so you can get it just right. I LOVE the dramatically different moisturizing gel, it’s magic I tell you! I also have an Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System (it’s like a Clarisonic, but only $30) and I use that at least once a day when cleansing. I’ve found that exfoliation is KEY to good skin. I will also use an acne spot treatment from time to time, but I think that the drugstore brands work just as well as the name-brand, so I get whatever is on sale.

I also love Clinique’s Superdefence moisturizer with SPF, it’s a bit of a splurge, but it’s worth it for me. I’m hoping that by investing a little bit more now, I can prevent issues later on. Here’s hoping! This SPF goes on like butter (but in a good way, haha).

Once a week I use the Body Shop’s Vitamin C microdermabrasion scrub. I always make sure to put on lots of moisturizer when I do this, and I can always tell a difference afterwards. This is hands down the best scrub I’ve used for my face.

For my body, I could most likely do a little more TLC. I really need a new body scrub, because winter dryness is no joke. I love the Aveeno daily moisturizer body wash and lotion, both do a good job of helping fight winter dryness (and during the summer, the body wash is the perfect amount of moisture), but for when I really need some extra love, I will use Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil (not the biggest fan of the smell, but it works wonders) or Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream (this smell always reminds me of my mom).

My hands are ALWAYS DRY. I think it’s because I drink so much water at work, so I am constantly going to the bathroom and washing my hands. I have some regular lotion at work, but most of the time at night I will either slather on Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme, or my Mary Kay emollient cream.

I wear fairly minimal makeup. For almost 2 years I wore Sephora’s loose mineral powder (I went crazy when they went on sale for $10) but it’s since been discontinued 😦 So, I am back to using Bare Minerals. Their products are AMAZING, and I love how I can layer on more coverage where I need it instead of using a heavy concealer. I also love Benefit’s Hello Flawless, but for me, the compact doesn’t last that long, and it’s more expensive than Bare Minerals.

I have two blushes that I switch between, either Bare Mineral’s Vintage Peach or Benefit’s Dandelion. Both are great, it usually just depends on what I am going to wear that day, or just my mood.

For years I used a Clinique eye shadow palate that had a variety of pinks and browns (I seriously never vary from the pink/brown palate, unless it’s peach or coral, I stick with what I know works) and I found a super similar palate from Revlon, for a fraction of the price. I like using eyeliner (brown) but I have yet to find one that doesn’t melt during the day. It’s bad! I have a Clinique one and an Almay one, and they both melt. Any suggestions?

I am OBSESSED with Covergirl Lashblast mascara in black. The brush is amazing, and it makes your lases full and long and amazing.

I usually keep my lips fairly neutral. I love Smith’s Rosebud Salve and Tarte lip stains, both help chapped lips and the Tarte lips stain is easy to control how much color you get.

So what about you? What is your favorite beauty product right now? If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do differently? I would get facials every month 🙂

  1. Oh SWEET! As you know I have blemished skin but I think I’m finally figuring out what works for me, as many products just clog my pores and/or irritate my skin. I am using Cetaphil right now and love it and I use Aveeno moisturizer and hair products.

I have wanted to switch to mineral makeup b/c I’ve read that it doesn’t soak into the skin and sits on top?!?! I think I’m going to try bare minerals!

    • I can safely say its the only makeup that doesn’t make breakouts worse for me, you don’t get that gross feeling that all you want to do is wash your face, you know? I honestly think it helps! My only advice is don’t use a spot treatment under the bare minerals, it sits differently on that than on just skin and you can see a difference.
